The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita on assumption of Office paid a familiarization visit to the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) on May 28th, 2014.The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by key members of staff of the Ministry including the Director Human Resources and the Director (TAA)for the visit.During the visit, the Permanent Secretary who is also the Chairperson, Governing Council of NOTAP was delighted about the activities of NOTAP and remarked that NOTAP’s mandate is very critical to the development of science and technology sector in the country. She added that Nigeria’s drive to leapfrog from technology consuming nation to a technology provider can be achieved if NOTAP’s mandate is fully actualized and pledged to support NOTAP to actualize its mandate.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Itawas a guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the second high Council meeting of D-8 Technology Transfer and Exchange Network (D-8 TTEN), anchored by NOTAPon 9th November, 2014, onbehalf of the country. In her address during the occasion, she said that D-8 TTEN was an inter-governmental organization for economic D-8 TTEN cooperation to improve member countries’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations. It is also a Network for enhancing participation in decision making at international level and improve standards of living of their people. She also said that the desire to share experiences, challenges and exchange information on scientific and technological capabilities of each member country is the main focus of the Network. She added that Nigeria’s aspiration to become industrialized by 2020 may be met through the effective utilization of the TTEN and therefore assured the participantsto seize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge about the operations and of the Network activities.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Itawas a guest of honour at the two day training workshop on Intellectual Property Generation, Protection and Management organised by NOTAP on December 3rd, 2014. Speaking at the event, she said that technology and Intellectual Property (IP) had taken global dimension in determining the economic position of any nation in the international power structure. Shealso said that NOTAP is an agency saddled with the responsibility of promoting the development of inventive and innovative culture in Nigeria which in effect are products of Intellectual Property. She further remarked that she was aware that NOTAP has initiated some developmental initiatives in this regard.
The Permanent Secreatry, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita who is also the Chairman of NOTAP Governing Council, chaired the inuagural meeting of the Council on 2nd September, 2014.
In her opening remarks, she stated that the Director General of NOTAP, Engr Umar Buba Bindir, PhD had already briefed her on the activities of the Office, and that the mandate is very peculiar and capable of transforming the country.
She said that NOTAP has saved the country a huge some of money through the registration of technology transfer agreement, which would have resulted to capital flight.
She promised to assist in facilitating linkages between the Office and other MDA’s whenever the need arrises. She also advised the Office to expedite action on the review of NOTAP Act in order to incorporate current operations and activities.
