Indigenous Technologists should be more innovative to accelerate Nigerians technological drive...Prof. Ewa says.

The Honourable Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Ita Okon Bassey Ewa says to propel the Nigerian economy from the present agrarian base to one of the twentieth most developed economy in the next 7 years, indigenous technologists should be more innovative and creative.
The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Hajia Rabi Jimeta made this statement when he declared open a two-day Techmart on Agric and Agro-Allied sector organized by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) in collaboration with Small and medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) at NOTAP Exhibition arena, Abuja.
He said for the economy of any nation to develop and be sustainable, the technologists must ensure that science; technology and innovation are strengthened and accorded the right place.
In his welcome address, the Director General of NOTAP, Engr. Umar Buba Bindir (PhD) said government agencies need to continue to collaborate as they stand at a greater advantage to achieve their mandates with efficient collaboration with other agencies, adding that NOTAP’s collaboration with SMEDAN would facilitate the socio-economic growth of the nation and that further collaborations should be encouraged.
He further emphasized that most of the Agricultural outputs in Nigeria are seasonal in nature and have short shelf life which results in monumental post harvest losses. The Techmart/Techno-Exhibition according to him was intended to address some of these inherent systemic deficiencies and the need to encourage value added to reduce such losses, create wealth, employment and attain food security in line with the transformation agenda of this administration. According to him, the major objective of the Exhibition was to show-case proven technologies and innovations in the subsector and in particular available Agro-processing Machineries and Equipment that would add value to agric products. He added that it would also serve as a platform for the YOUWIN (Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria) beneficiaries to avail themselves of the proven technologies they require for their individual enterprises/ventures.
