Nigeria's Development Threatened By Huge Gap In Knowledge System

A huge gap in the knowledge system has been a threat to development in all sectors of the Nigerian economy. The Chief Executive Officer of Nouvelle Consultants Limited, Dr. Rosemary Nwangwu has said.
She pointed in an official visit to NOTAP that the gap in the knowledge system in Nigeria is daily widening and there was an urgent need to address the situation to safeguard the nation from imminent collapse as knowledge is the bedrock of development in the 21st century.
She further said that the situation informed her company’s decision to visit NOTAP and seek collaboration to bridge the huge gap in the knowledge system.
Dr. Nwangwu pointed out that the strategic position of NOTAP which enables it to observe the knowledge system in Nigeria and the agency’s expertise in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) promotion makes it a viable collaborator.
Dr. Nwangwu also identified the need for creating awareness on the widespread capacity gaps in the system, technical capacity building, creating a database for planning in the sector, utilizing E-learning platform and training workshops in the system as possible areas of collaboration with NOTAP to address the problem.
Receiving the visiting team on behalf of the Management staff, Director General of NOTAP, Engr.Umar Buba Bindir commended Nouvelle Consultants for its efforts and contributions towards promoting the knowledge system in Nigeria.
He identified the lack of a defined knowledge model for Nigeria as the bane of the country’s development pointing out that other developed nations of the world developed their models based on their uniqueness.
Dr. Bindir said Nigeria is endowed with abundant resources but Nigerians and especially graduates from our tertiary institutions do not appreciate the vast opportunities available which he attributed to lack of credible statistics and an organized knowledge system.
''If our knowledge system is working then all will be well. It is only knowledge that can take us to the level of the industrialized nations of the world,'' he stressed.
He revealed that in the course of implementing its mandate, NOTAP confirmed the huge gap in the knowledge system and is making efforts to bridge it through programmes and projects like the NOTAP-INDUSTRY FELLOWSHIP which will help provide top class scientific knowledge to young Nigerians leading to wealth creation, poverty alleviation and employment generation.
Dr. Bindir said NOTAP will partner with NOUVELLE in strengthening the knowledge system in Nigeria as the synergy is very crucial to the development of the nation.
