NOTAP Initiates Awards On Technology Transfer
The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) recognized three companies for the maiden NOTAP award category endorsement/ sponsorship of the Best Technology Transfer Agreement (BTTA) at the just concluded 2012 African Information Society Merit Award (AISMA) Cyber Nigeria Forum organized by AIT InfoTech Network in collaboration with the Nigerian Internet Group (NIG).
The award recipients who included Eleme Petrochemicals Company Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and FrieslandCampina WAMCO Plc were nominated for the NOTAP sponsored Technology Transfer category of the AISMA award based on their respective outstanding contributions to the technological development and economic growth of the Nigerian economy.
Eleme Petrochemicals Company Plc was specifically nominated for the award because of its collaboration with NOTAP to encourage learning and research in secondary and tertiary institutions through the donation of laboratory equipments to secondary schools. It should be noted that Eleme Petrochemicals, therefore, channeled its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to technology based programmes to enhance research activities in the schools thereby enhancing the research interest of the beneficiaries.
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc on its part has been collaborating with NOTAP in establishing a skill acquisition centre in Abuja. The centre is equipped with modern equipment and machineries for artisans and craftsmen to develop their skills and earn better standard of living. The centre is intended to breed a crop of workers that can substitute some of the expatriates that are presently employed in the construction industry. Its spin-off effect is expected to create a pool of specialized skills for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for the growth of the construction industry in Nigeria.
Furthermore, FriestlandCampina WAMCO Plc has through the partnership programme initiated by NOTAP, promoted local dairy development with Nigerian farmers for the production and collection of cow milk.
The company has pioneered and supported the efforts of the cattle rearers to ensure proper and adequate management of cattle to enhance development and production of milk. The spin-offs from the programme has provided employment opportunities for more hands in the business of cattle rearing and dairy production for national growth and economic development.
Also at the event, the Board of Advisors of Cyber Nigeria Initiative honoured NOTAP with The Most Effective Government Regulatory Agency Award which was received by the Director General, Engr. Umar Bindir on behalf of the Management Staff of NOTAP, having beaten other regulatory agencies.
The African Information Society Merit Award (AISMA) is a biennial pan Africa award which was initiated in 2009 to recognize and celebrate iconic contributions to ICT applications, usage, deployment and development across Africa.
