The role of Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP)
OVERVIEW:
As a result of today's increasingly high competitive business environment, organizations are constantly seeking ways to establish and maintain a positive reputation, rebrand, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and communicate effectively with their target audience. This is where the Public Relations (PR) Unit or department comes in as a vital component of any successful organization.
Being the image makers of the Office, the public relations department is responsible for managing the organization's reputation, building relationships with stakeholders, and communicating key messages to the public, media, and other stakeholders. The PR unit serves as the voice of the Office, promoting its mission, values, and goals to various audiences.
OUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS THE PUBLIC RELATIONS UNIT OF THE OFFICE INCLUDES:
1. Media Relations: Building relationships with media professionals, pitching stories, and securing media coverage to promote the organization's message.
2. Crises Management: Developing strategies to manage crises, mitigating negative publicity, and protecting the organization's reputation.
3. Internal Communications: Communicating with employees, stakeholders, and other internal audiences to promote engagement, understanding, and alignment with organizational goals.
4. External Communications: Crafting and disseminating key messages to external audiences, including clients, knowledge institutions and the entire research community, and the general public.
5. Social Media Management: Managing the organization's social media presence, creating content, and engaging with online audiences.
6. Event Planning: Organizing events, conferences but are carried out in collaboration with other departments, to promote the organization's brand and build relationships with stakeholders.
7. Reputation Management: Monitoring and managing the organization's online reputation, addressing negative reviews and feedback, and promoting positive stories.
8. Builds Trust and Credibility: PR helps establish trust and credibility with stakeholders, which is critical for business success.
9. Manages Crisis: As an information unit, we have assisted the Office to mitigate the impact of a crisis, protecting the organization's reputation and minimizing damage.
10. Increases Visibility: PR increases the visibility and awareness about the functions and activities of the Office and has been instrumental to the rebranding of the organization.
11. Hosting of Official pictures: It is the responsibility of the Public Relations unit to print and hand Official portraits such as the President of the Country, Honourrable Ministers, Director Generals as well as Directors to strategic positions in the Office for easy identification and referencing.
In conclusion, the public relations department is a vital component of any successful organization such as NOTAP and the practitioners have unarguably played key roles in the success recorded by the Office. By building relationships, managing reputation, and communicating effectively, the PR unit has supported increase in cliental, increase visibility, and drive success through adherence to best practices and staying focused on organizational objectives.
